Belt Squeal 96 Grand Cherokee 4WD 4.0 A/C
I just replaced my serpentine belt with a new belt (same Dayco model as before) and now I get belt squeal for about 10 seconds every time I start it up, then it disappears.
I didn't have a squeal with the old belt, but it was fraying so I had to replace it.
I have a 96 Grand Cherokee Laredo 4WD 4.0 with A/C.
Anyone have an idea how to fix this squeal?
Thanks,
Bill

Old fart with a wrench
If it was fraying on the edges, something isn't lined up straight or off center. Quite often if the alternator has been replaced, the mounting bushings need to be realigned to move the alternator forward or backward to line up the pulley. You can check alignment with a flexible straightedge across the pulley flanges. Basically the belt is rubbing on the pulley flanges instead of being centered in the pulleys.
