I took the bad trans out of my 97 Limited 5.2l and was wondering if this is worth anything or if I should just scrap it. I replaced it with a good used one a while back and it's just been sitting in my garage taking up space. I tried to get rid of it on Craigslist for 40 bucks with two 249 transfer cases but nobody seems to want it. Has anybody else been able to make any money off their cores?
Should be a 46RE behind the V8, not a 44RE.
But, I see two possibles:
1) Take it to a transmission shop, and ask them if they'd be interested in the core.
2) Tear it to bits, and sell it as scrap metal (it's been the fate of the four BA-10/5s I went through...)
The transfer cases can probably be sold on some Jeep forum somewhere - you may not have hit the right one yet. You may want to try NAGCA (North American Grand Cherokee Association,) and see if you get any nibbles there.

Even I have to stop off on my way when driving back home to let drive at some equipment that's been pi**ing me off...
Side note - did you know that a 40-gr .224" Hornady SXSP does positively brutal things to a cellular phone handset at 300 yards? Very rewarding...

I'm pretty sure it's a 44re. I think 46re's were used with the 5.9L. I will definitely give some local trans shops a call on Monday. Hopefully that works out, seems like a pretty good idea. I don't think anybody wants these transfer cases because they are all time 4X4, no 2 wheel selection. As far as taking it out somewhere and causing it some much deserved pain, well the closest I get to bullets like that is MW2, lol.
