Back after a couple years - New Beater
I had a '96 Country that was a great Jeep until 2 Teen Daughters managed to beat it up pretty good. The last straw though was seeing coolant in the oil and some other weird stuff. Since I was sending my youngest off to college I traded it for a little econo-car
FFWD 2 years and a guy at work offered me his '95 Laredo GC for $200. It has sat since Feb of 2011 but I figured at that price I could donate it to a charity if it's a complete turd. I bought a new battery for it and it fired right up. He told me to drive and see what I think and he is not in a hurry for money. Well, even though it was practically free it needs work. The body itself looks fantastic but it was down 2 quarts of ATF, the radiator has a pin hole, the transfer case or some part of the drive train clunks when put in 4WD and it needs rear shocks. It has sat in my drive and not leaked anything yet. He told me he never added any ATF or had it looked at in 17 years.
So I am thinking I may disconnect the front drive for the summer, massage the rest to be safe to drive and take it from there. I figure if I sink a couple, few hundred on the thing it might be worth it.

I think I'm going to start doing the same thing, it's great you can find these GC for a few hundred and the throw maybe a K into it and it's a great truck. My GC I got for $350 with a blow trans. I put a new trans in I found for a great deal and ended up puttin a new front end and became my DD with 253k on it. I got a 4yr old and just had my second son on Sunday. So I think I'm gonna start doing some project jeeps down the road. my 4yr old son can help on it and it will become his first car. If he puts in the work then I think he would take care of it. Nice grab on your GC. can't wit to see what ya do with it, throw up some picks
