I have just bought a 04 jeep grand cherokee special edition. I wrecked a 2002 jeep grand cherokee that had a problem shifting out of 1st. 4000rpms and it would shift. i changed the governor and everything worked out. well in the 4.0 v6 04 its goin to about 2500 rpms in 1st and 2nd...then a clunk which sounds metal on metal. I changed the govenor on it.cranshaft sensor. had a code to change throttle position sensor did and no codes. changed the sparkplugs and did the output sensor. But still doing it. and it seems to making a noise when driving liek a woom woom kinda noise. Took to shop and they did the belts. changed fluid and filter. no metal shavings. its an awd and im pretty sure it just had one sensor on the transmission unless i missed the other.

 

It could need the bands adjusted on it. It could also be the torque converter locking and unlocking.

 

this nis true! have tyou also checked the "U"joints or would rhat have been to easy?!
