Question Air con re-gassed but still not working

Hello,

1998 Grand Cherokee 4.0 RHD.

I have just bought this motor, and the air con doesn't work. Just today had it re-gassed, and although the system did need gas, it still doesn't work.

Is my compressor u/s, or could it be something else? I did swop the relay in the fuse box with another one of the same type, and still doesn't work.

Thanks.

PS: did try to search on 'air con' but the search system didn't like because the words were too short.

OK, I found people on here talking about the low pressure switch. Is this it? (to the right of the photo)

I tried bypassing it, but nothing happened (still no a/c).

Any more ideas please?

I just did mine the other day. If I'm looking at your pic correctly, that plug you say you bypassed is on the drivers side, right? If so, that's not it. The low pressure switch is on top of the accumulator/drier if I'm not mistaken. It's on the passenger side behind the compressor.

I bypassed it to get the compressor to take the r134a.

Right, thanks. Any chance of a picture so I can find the dryer?

This is a RHD if it makes any difference.

I'm not sure of any difference the RHD may include. Here's a pic up close of the thing.

And a better view of the dryer.

Thanks! But mine looks very different under the bonnet (hood) than yours does.

I'll take some photos tomorrow.

Here are some photos:

Is this the dryer?

That connector had 0v across it, with the ignition on or off and by-passing it did nothing.

The part below it certainly looks like the dryer/accumulator whatever. Did you try jumpering the thing with the A/C on? It should kick the compressor on.

So, you had it charged recently. Did it work then? You checked the relay I see. I don't know, I guess the clutch could be out of the compressor.

FYI, I'm no expert, just did my own charge recently through the "jumper pressure sensor" method.

No, it has never worked since I bought it (just over a week ago). Had it re-gassed but still doesn't work

In order for the system to be charged, the compressor has to work. Without it, there is no circulation of the refrigerant, meaning it sucks the refrigerant into the system. If someone told you that they charged it without the compressor running, I think that's impossible. I could be wrong I guess.
