i lost a spring

Default i lost a spring

Hey, the other day i was changing the U joints on my frontdrive of my 98 GC and there was a spring in between the two u joints and i lost it. Just wondering why its there and should i find another one thanks for any help.

yes u need it, its for keeping pressure against the constant velocity joint section of your front drive shaft. The part stores offer them if you cant find it.

the u-joints will bind up, i looked on Napa website and for the life of me cant recall the name of it.

ok thanks ill try and find a spring somewhere, if anyone knows where i can find one or the name of it that would be great.

In the exploded view of the double-cardan U-joint in the manual, the only spring it shows is called a "Socket spring". It goes between the Socket ball and the Link yoke.

yup, blue's got it.
you can replace the whole centering ball yoke for about 40 bux.
