99 WJ 4.0 GC doing AC recharge lost freon need help
Hi,
First, thanks to all who have jumped in on my previous threads on project jeep restore. lol
Basically when I pulled the radiator out I blew the freon out of the condensor.
So that brought me to recharging and evacuation of the system.
What I found was basically the system has little to no oil.
I found a bare amount in the dryer and have used my air compressor
and handy blowing kit and blew out the evaporator, condensor, dryer
and compressor. I'm really shocked the compressor never seized up but I will say AC performance was rather poor.
So, I ordered a gasket kit and since the radiator is out and condensor I started
just replacing all the O-rings every where on every single connection under the hood. I pulled the compressor off as well and very little oil dumped out
as well using the air compressor to blow it out. I also used mineral spirits to clean it up. The system appears to be dry before and after cleanup. Im shocked the compressor to blow. Hence my suspect of leak and sure enough it was easy to see it. The oil seal is leaking on the compressor and the lines coming not only could I see residue but cleaning up the hoses where the orings where at required TLC and I see that. So anyhow this panel on the compressor that hold this gasket and oil its held in by 4 bolts or something. I got the gasket for it out of the kit. Whats the torque to put it back after I put this funky looking gasket in it?
I've done lots of research on charging, flusing etc.
So I'm ready to fill her up at this point with oil after I seal the compressor up. Some questions remain.
Any help is appareciated.
Questions
1) What is the bolt torque on the AC compressor where you pull that panel off to replace that oil seal? I dont know how much to torque those bolts back down on it on the compressor itself.
The compressor still operates but since I got it off why not get all gaskets repaired since the clutch still runs? Any comment here?
2) For the 99 4.0 WJ GC it's PAG 46 basically on a dry system like mine
pretty much the whole 8 oz bottle dumping most in the compressor and the rest in the dryer?
3) After OIL has been added (PAG 46 for this car?) evacuate with the vacuum pump to get moisture and air out right to about 28? Then see if it hold to see if my seal and oring replacements hold up?
4) CHARGE IT! Woohoo?
I've not done this before so it's a blow or no go. LOL
Thank you!
