Hello,
Heres the story, I was using my 99 GC 4.7L. To tow a pop up camper, it was heating up in the mountain and really lagging. I depressed the accelerator a bit to drop gears and it down shifted pretty hard and thermostat was reading just below the red. We pulled off let it cool, did that about 3 times until we finally made it the 1/4 mi. To the next town. At one point it wouldnt start, the engine would turn but it would just idle and stall.. finally got it back to town. The oil and all other fluids look normal, no check engine light. We Replace the tstat (spring toward the block). Realized there is a crack in the plastic of the radiator, we replace the radiator, and radiator cap. Start it, add filtered water while running, cap off, let it bubble, the jeep heated to the 3/4 mark so we shut it off, noticed cracked upper hose replaced that as well as the water pump.. tested it again, still wanting to overheat. The jeep has a little electric fan that doesnt seem to mount anywhere that sits against the grill.. any ideas on how to make this baby, not so hot?

My 2000 WJ 4.0 has an electric cooling fan in a shroud mounted on the engine side of the radiator. It's probably about 10 or 12 inches in diameter. You should have something similar. At the very least, it should be in a shroud to maximize airflow. My fan starts at about 214*. It's only 1 speed.

Also, lock out OD when towing up an incline.

The 2001 4.7 uses a hydraulic fan powered by the steering pump.

Welcome to CF, Molly!
