'99 and 2000 Front Driveshafts the Same?
Hello.
I have a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo with the Quadra-Trac II 4x4 system. When I bought the Jeep it didn't come with a front driveshaft, the owner said it had gone bad and he removed it. I went to a local junkyard and picked one up from a 1999 Jeep GC. I know nothing about the vehicle it came out of. My question is were the front driveshafts the same from 99 to 2000? I don't even know if it had a 6 or 8 Cyl motor.
The reason I ask is because I had a hell of a time getting the shaft in, seemed too long, but finally did get it in. Found out the CV boot on the front side was ripped and sprayed axle grease all under the Jeep in that general area. I tried to remove the damn thing but she doesn't want to come out.
Another issue I'm having at the moment is a hard vibration when making sharp turns at slow speeds. I replaced the driver side axle due to a torn boot, and while at it noticed the boot on the passenger side was ripped as well. There's no clicking noises but the vibration is VERY noticable.
Any information on this matter is greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

The vibration might be caused by a bad t-case coupling, which might be why the front d-shaft was removed in the first place. Or driving with out the shaft might have damaged the t-case if it was out for an extended period.
And Welcome to CF!

Thanks for the reply. I'm not totaly sure if the Xfer case is in the best condition or not. Visual inspection seems to be ok, not too much movement on the couplings, shifts from 4AT to 4LO smoothly.
Also, when replacing the front axle I noticed there was NO dust seal where the axle goes into the differential sleeve. Is it internaly sealed or did I just open another can of worms? Going to check the differential fluid level tomorrow. I really hope it's not bad news.
