98 Jeep Grand Cherokee with 125000 miles, sat for 7 years,
98 Jeep GC that sat for 7 years. Cleaned it up, replaced plugs, oil change etc. runs like a top. After a few thousand miles, the transmission started acting up, like in "limp" mode sometimes, but sometimes not.
I was told it was probably sticking transmission valves, recommended putting lubegard additive in and see if it helps.
Suggestions?

These forums are "platform specific" so as you have a Grand Cherokee, you should post in the GC forum. Here is a link. Be sure to post the engine/transmission you have and whether or not you have now or have ever seen a check engine light.

Generally speaking if this were mine, I would start with a "drain and fill". Drain what you can from the pan and replace with appropriate fluid, Dex/Merc III compatible if its the AW4. Then drive for a while. You may have to perform this procedure a few times in order to completely freshen the fluid. I'm not a big fan of additives, but I have a friend who has had a transmission shop for 30+ years and he does like Lubegard Red for the AW4. Good luck!

YES! And requires ATF+4 only! Personally, I wouldn't use any additives, but that's me. Change the fluid, filter, and drive it for a while. Worry about it if it doesn't improve.

If its the 42RE I would bet the governor pressure sensor is gummed up. Take it out and clean the screen with some carb cleaner.
