Default 98 Gr Cherokee wont stay running

I just bought a 98 Gr Cherokee. It is not running, and I'm trying to figure out why. It seems like it's not getting fuel. More specifically, it seems like it's not getting enough fuel. It will start up, but it will immediately stall if I touch the accelerator. Sometimes it will idle very roughly for a short time, and then stall. How can I begin to diagnose this problem?

It has a straight 6 cyl

Thanks,
Vince

fuel filter clogged maybe try that first if that, dont work see if you can rent a fuel pressure gauge from a parts store to see where its at on the rail

sounds like the fuel filter to me. Try bypassing the filter temporarily and see if it runs. If it does then you have isolated the problem. Cheap fix.

OK, so the snow finally meltd enough for me to start looking at this again. I hate to ask a dumb question, but anyway - where is the fuel filter, and pump on this thing? I followed the fuel line to the fire wall, and down to the frame, and then all the way back past the rear dif.

Thanks.

On '97 and later Grand Cherokees (ZJ's), the fuel filter is part of the in-tank fuel pump.
And Welcome to CF!
