'97 ZJ Pioneer stereo install.
Hoy all, I’m hoping there’s someone out there, who’s an audiophile that’s installed their own after-market stereo, or someone that’s their profession.
I have a ’97 JGC Limited, which came with the Infinity Gold system. I’m unsure of what kind of upgrade that is, speakers, power amp or both? I’ve been a GM guy since the ‘70’s, so I don’t have a good base of knowledge about Chrysler/Jeep. But I have installed car stereos in most all my vehicles.
I’m confident I wired up my pioneer radio/CD/USB player correctly, or so I thought. It powers up as it should, but not a peep or buzz. There were only two wires that weren’t used, the park wire (orange on adapter gray plug) and antenna (blue on black adapter plug). I had the Mute (brown on gray adaptor plug) wired into the mute wire on the radio, but I cut it thinking that might be the problem. It wasn’t.
I’m also wondering what the two wire small flat plug is for (3rd pic, right of antenna plug). It has a white/black and a purple wire.
Any advice would be welcome, and I’ll also consult Crutchfield when I get a chance.

Old fart with a wrench
You'd be better off posting this in the Aftermarket Electrical Systems section of the forum.

Welcome to the forum!
The Infinity Gold system uses different speakers and an external amplifier, under the driver's side rear seat.
Assuming the new Pioneer is still driving through the external Infinity amplifier, then the ANT wire is essential.
The ANT wire drives the power antenna logic (on earlier model years), plus the external amplifier enable logic (for Infinity Gold vehicles). That ANT wire MUST be connected to the Pioneer external amplifier enable output, or the amp won't make a peep.
That skinny two wire connector looks like the steering wheel controls.

Ahhh, thank you wingless! I was hesitate on connecting the antenna wire because of my lack of knowledge about these old factory systems, and having no power antenna. Any idea what the Park pin on the gray plug is for?

Glad to help!
The PARK is +12V when the exterior lights are on and the ILL is a variable voltage corresponding to dash illumination intensity.

I now see that catagory, as I'm not use to the forum's format. Thanks for pointing that out Dave1123. Being new to the world of Chrysler/Jeep, I'm sure to have more questions about this ZJ, and I hope to contribute the things I learn from it.

W'hoo! That did the trick. Now I'm waiting on a replacement light switch, and then I can button up the dash.
