96 zj transmission dead

Default 96 zj transmission dead

So mine died, whats the best option ? rebuild, junkyard or junk zj ? the shop ( two diff ones) want 1800 to rebuild mine. wrecking yard has one for 750 with 3 month warranty.

Thoughts?

If your going to Keep the Jeep a while. Rebuild. At least then you know you got another 200K + miles before rebuild is needed. Also if you did end up selling, You can ask more because your Jeep has a sound tranny.

1800 bucks is not a bad deal. I would go the rebuild route, that junkyard tranny may end up costing you more later down the road.

Rebuild or look around on CL and forums, might stumble upon a rebuild being parted.

What type of warranty are they offering with the rebuild, small shop or franchise?

Ammco has national warrenty, other shop did not say.

Mine cost me $3200 with hard parts. Forward clutch drum, pump, convertor, cooling lines, and flushing the coolers
