Per, Your Mechanic (a webpage/site) - One of the most common symptoms of a bad ASD relay is an engine that will start, but stall out almost immediately, or at random times.

This would be a relatively simple thing to check. Just swap around/in a different relay (a/c or windshield wiper) for with the location of where the ASD relay goes. It would probably at least be worth checking.

The ASD (if the relay was going bad) would shut down the injectors and the ignition though, right? So, it should not run or stay running with the starter fluid?

What shuts down only the fueling? Security?

Not ASD relay, fuel pump relay! The ASD only controls ignition and injector circuits.

Did your mechanic find the problem? I'm in the same boat you're in, exact same symptoms.

A short in the oxygen sensor circuitry can cause the crank sensor to [edited in].. act like it has failed, if there is a short in the wiring, or at the fuse box, and with the ASD.. O2 heater element.

Less likely, it could be an issue with a short in a part of the fueling circuit?

Default Quite possibly your problem.

Try the pick up coil, it's under the distributor cap, there is a wire attatched to it. It only takes a couple of minutes to pull out and replace; just unplug the harness and it lifts right out. Installation is the same in reverse.
