I went cruising through town in my cherokee one day looking to trade it in since it has given me nothing but problems, but since im never satisfied with any car ever, I could not find anything worth while. Instead, at the dodge dealership i spoke with a friendly technician about some of the problems I was having and he even came outside to take a look at my engine and he spotted that my distributor was wobbling apart from the engine. It doesnt idle correctly, but at 192,000 miles I wouldnt expect it not to. Does this mean imminent failure? Is there a test I can do on it to see if it is faulty? I tried taking my hand and wiggling it while the engine was off, but it seems to be sturdy. Any and all help is appreciated thank you!

 

Pull it out and check the shaft bearing. If it's loose enough, the rotor may be hitting the inside if the cap.

Actually, just pull the cap off and look at the inside and the rotor. I've seen Chevys where the cap wasn't secured properly and the rotor contact was bent sideways, shutting off the motor.

there inexpensive and easy to swap out....change it out and be done with it. BEFORE it fails and leaves you on the side of the road.
