Question 95 grand Cherokee Laredo Automatic transmission output seal

on a 95 grand Cherokee Laredo 5.2 L all-wheel-drive automatic transmission , How do you remove the seal on the transmission side Between the transmission and transfer case, my Haynes and my Chiltons and YouTube aren’t showing me, Because it looks like there’s bearings And I don’t want to damage those they look fine, but the rubber seal I want to replace,Is it just a ring & rubber seal and I’m replacing the transfer case seal too, do you use a seal puller because the male and female shafts are in the way, auto parts store associates aren’t knowledgeable enough. I’m a girl be kind, but my 95 Jeep grand Cherokee has 300,000 miles on it, but my grandson try to help me because I’m getting a little old, and he didn’t check the fluids before he pulled the transfer case, but I was losing a little bit of tranny fluid a while back ago, Then it just flooded on the ground, but lost a lot of fluid also when he pulled the transfer case out from the transmission, pulled the drain plug on the transfer case and it was pretty full, . Thank you if someone can help

Welcome to the forum.

Good for you working on your ZJ. The ATSG manual is great for that 46RH transmission. The correct Jeep Factory Service Manual (FSM) is excellent and is required for DIY work on this vehicle. The FSM also has an excellent transmission section.

Yes, the transmission does not seal fluids when the transfer case is removed.

Here is my 46RH Rebuild Topic.

It includes these two images showing the replacement of the output shaft seal. My images show the seal replacement w/o the shaft in place. A standard hook shaped seal puller would permit removal w/ the shaft installed.

The output shaft bearing is about 3-4" inboard from the end of the housing, so no risk of damaging that bearing.

The new output shaft seal is pressed in using a 1-7/8” socket.
