transfer case seal help!

transfer case seal help!
got a 231j transfer case and i replaced the rear output shaft seal and there is a c-clip groove just before it goes into the houseing and the seal must have grabed the lip and folded the seal over now poring fluid out of it when driveing does anyone know how to get it by the groove so the seal sets corectly

I replaced mine but didn't have to take anything off but the seal. I got it started...My hammer did the rest. It looks like you took the whole output off.

Rub the ridge with some emory cloth to smooth it down a bit and put plenty of oil on it instead of the red grease. Also after every few taps of the hamer on the seal rotate the shaft afew times, should help it on.

sorry thats not my case just used a pic to show the groove i was thinking of cutting a pop bottle up and puting it over the shaft and useing lithium greese to slide it in all the way
