Question 94 trans, what years will work

Found a heck of a deal today on a stock 94 Laredo, V8 with leather that I couldnt pass up.

Only thing is the trans is toast, wont go in any gear at all.

What year Grands trans will work in the 94 ? Also, are the V8 and 6cyl trans the same ?

The 6cyl and V8 used a different trans. 2WD and 4X4 used a different trans. I might be wrong but any year V8 ZJ, and some dodge, trans that is the same type as yours should work.

93-95 V8 grands had the 46RH,i would find another from those years. 96-98 5.2's had the 44RE which is quite different (H=hydraulic vs. E=electronic). Are you sure the trans is shot?

pretty sure..... havent even got it home yet, went and bought it this morning and going back tomorrow with trailer to pick it up.

Ckd fluid level, right on the money. Fluid has the typical trans fluid smell (slightly burnt), no obvious metal glitter in it...............200k miles on it, original trans.

Crank it and put it in any gear and it doesnt try to move at all. You can hear a slight noise from tranny when you have it in gear. Sounds like when your barely engaging a manuals clutch and can hear it dragging slightly....

I heard there was a crystlar trans that worked. I cant remember the model but its supposed to be heavy duty. Ill have to ask my buddy again. I have just about the same problem Im bought a 94 ZJ from a friend. he says the trans will slip in and out of gear but then sometimes wont do it at all.
