Hi all, new here but here goes
My 94 GC LE (V8) started not wanting to stay running after idling in park when I shift into reverse. Shift back to park-wont start, shift to neutral and it started back up and went into drive and reverse ok. Turn off- happens again. A friend takes a look but cant diagnose a cause but mentioned a possible bad crankcase position sensor going bad or bad coil ignitor pack. He couldn't find the obd port to plug in his tester either. Any thoughts /questions ?

 

There's no OBD port on a 94. There's a process turning it off and on a few times and reading flashing lights. Here's the page I used to read mine. https://www.fixjeeps.com/jeep-check-engine-codes.html
Record a video when you do it so you don't have to do the process multiple times if you miss something.

How is the idle? Does the idle remain constant or droop when shifted from Park?

When stalled and returned to Park w/ no start, does it crank or not? Are there other times when it doesn't start in Park? Note there is a switch in the transmission to permit starting only when in Park. If that switch is not adjusted properly, then starting in Park / Neutral will be problematic. This reply in this topic shows my shifter cable adjustment.

 

I ran the ignition switch off/on function to get the codes, they had nothing to do with motor running problem. So it's going into a Good mechanic tomorrow to have it repaired correctly !! Thanks for your inputs tho, I did learn a few things I didn't know.
