Question 4x4 Shifter Hard to LIFT!!!

Hey everyone!

I just purchased a 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo with 4x4. The Jeep runs perfect! But the when I go to Shift it into any of the 4x4 options, the shift handle is very, very hard to shift!!!

What am i doing wrong? How to I shift it into place where it won't be so hard?

Thanks!!!

Get underneath and spray lever ***. with PB blaster twice a day for three days, sometimes rust builds up and makes it hard to shift.

Are you moving while shifting? If you have the Select Trac (2H-4PT-4FT-N-4L) tcase you can shift between 2H, 4PT, 4FT moving at any speed in drive. To go in and out of 4L you want to be rolling 1-3 mph with tranny in N (never faster than 3 mph!) Hope this helps!
