i just bought a 01 GC limited 4x4 4.7L. I got a great deal at auction for it but there are a few things that need attention. 1st the 4wd shifter just slides back and forth and does not engage the 4wd. is it common for the linkage to break? is it easy to check from underneath or do i have to pull apart the center console? also i have no air, what is the most common problem with GC air (comressor, clutch etc...)? any other advice would be appreciated.

the linkage should be easy to chek. Not sure if these have linkage or a cable, but either way having someone move the lever while having a peek underneath should reveal your problem in that area. No idea on the AC. there is a lot threads on the heating and cooling on these units. Try the search, or look through some of the stickys.
