Default 4WD back to 2 wheel drive now steering problem

Hello, this site seems like a great way to avoid getting shafted by mechanics so I figured I would give it a shot. Today I had to use my 4 wheel dr. and I have only done so twice in 4 years - when I put it back into 2 wheel drive the steering and driving is really off. when I am going straight it feels like I have the e brake on or something because when I let off the gas you can feel something slowing it down. The real prroblem is when I turn it seems like the wheels are not turning because if I am going slow like in a parking lot and I turn the wheels it will stop my jeep! when I am taking really easy turns slowly you can hear the wheels skidding accross the pavement... Also, when driving straight it feels like I have little control over the vehicle because it will not be really responsive to my adjustments of the steering wheel...

ANY IDEAS? Any information is greatly appreciated!

WOW I actually just solved this, I called the guy at a jeep dealership and he told me that it was not fully out of 4 WD even though I had heard the clunk and that I should go back and forth between 4WD and 2WD until I get it fixed... then when I went to drive to a prking lot to do this, the steering was fixed.. I WAS PARKED ON A RATHER STEEP DOWNHILL SLOPE! I think that is the trick for anyone else that might read this thread with the same problem! Thank god, no mechanic for me!

You really should use your 4WD more often....just to move things around. Make sure the pavement is wet or snowing, or something. Don't suggest using it on dry pavement.
