Default 4 port fuel injectors

Hey fellow JGC'ers,

My money pit is a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee Rocky Mountain Edition - production date 4/2004 - so this really is the very last of the WJ series.

Despite the cost and upkeep (it is a working Jeep used to service equipment at extremely remote cell and microwave towers) I try to keep this vehicle in top running condition at all times.

I was wondering if anyone has tried the 4 port fuel injectors that supposedly provide better atomization of fuel in the cylinder. There are a few suppliers that supply these as rebuilt with a limited lifetime warranty.

My interest is to see if I could squeeze and extra mile or two out of each gallon. Overall I am averaging 16.2 mpg. In town is closer to 14.9 and highway is about 16.8.

If anyone has invested in this upgrade - could you share your experience to let me know if it was worth the money and if you actually experienced any gains in your mpg

Thanks,
Chris - Lynchburg, VA

Towerman,
This is a popular mod for the 4.0 inline six crowd. Dunno if the change would help unless you know your OEM injectors are single hole versions. If so, it's more than likely you'll get a similar 2-3 mpg gain in your GC.

Research the cross reference to other chrysler products and make a truip to your local junkyard - you'll save at least half the cost and find other cool stuff to add to your ride.

I did the injector swap in my 95 4.0 and did not get much of a gain in MPG at all, I did get a smoother running engine with more response though.

Are your ignition components up to date? You should see some improvement in fuel use unless plugs or wires are getting old. Idle should be smoother and midrange torque should be a bit better too.

If your header has been replaced with an aftermaket collector type (APN, Gibson, etc.), a cold air intake should also net a small measurable improvement too.

Did a complete tune up at the time I swapped the injectors. I did get an increase in MPG after installing a new 195 degree t-stat, there was a 180 degree in there from the PO. The 195 t-stat did NOT make the engine run any hotter, it only warms up quicker.

You typically only see an increase if the original injectors were dirty.
