Alright kind of an odd one fro ya'll I have been having some shifting issues with the WJ, at first I thought it was a vacuum problem because it originally manifested its self as an occasional late shift from 3rd to OD, so I went looking and fixed all my vacuum leaks, the engine was many times happier, and it was running a magnitude of times smoother. However my issue never went away one day it refused to sift all together. It defiantly wasn't a limp mode because it was stuck in first and limp is second. I damn near killed myself trying to make the 20 minute drive home, it ended up taking twice that because I could only go 20 Mph in a 50 zone. After that I went down the rabbet hole of posable causes, anything from pressure solenoids to ECMs, even valve bodies at one point. I eventually found a temporary fix of simply reseting the computer anytime it wouldn't get out of first. Now I should have looked under long before this but I never did until the "let it shine" light (check engine) came on the dash, after a quick key dance I had a solid lead finally. The codes were as follows, P0720, P0388 and P0837, the last two have since disappeared, they had something to do with the 4wheel drive and a simple back and forth run in every gear on the T-case clears those codes. The P0720 has stayed persistent, it comes back as a transmission speed sensor fault. When I finally got under to check the sensor in question there was no sensor, but a home made plug, presumably the previous owner had done it, and no wiring to be found to plug into a sensor, I have sense tracked down a wiring diagram and found the pin out on the ECM connector, the good news is the wires are still there, but there is no pigtail on the end of them, they are grounded out against each other. So I figured easy fix, buy a pigtail and a sensor and wire it back in, problem is the connector is discontinued by Mopar, and there are about 150 different connectors that clam that they are for the output speed sensor of a 42RE or some other variant of it, and they all look different no two look the same, or say that they are for the non existent input speed sensor. Now normally I'd just find my way to a self service part store and clip one off an existing jeep, but the closest one is now a 3 hour drive after I moved. Dose anyone have a 4.0 WJ that would be willing to post some pictures of what the speed sensor pigtail is supposed to look like so I can buy the right one the first time?
