231 tranfer case miss match
I put a 98 trans in my 94 zj. All went well till i discovered the tans output shaft dosent fit my 94 t-case. From the forum I found out:
only issue is matching the input gear to your tranny. I am in the process of swapping a 231 into my 4.7L WJ (removing a 247). If you plan in using your current input gear from your existing case, make sure the 231 you pick up is post 1995, as the gear mesh pattern in the front of the case is different pre 95 and your WJ gear won't work. You shouldn't have any speedo issues, as WJ's use the ABS tone rings to get a speedo signal, you'll just have to plug the VSS output on the 231 you swap in. I did read somewhere on jeepforum.com about using the 231 VSS to convert the WJ to use that signal, and I will have to look it back up since I am in the midst of a JK axle swap as well... HTH
so now I need a 95 or newer 231 that takes the 98 trans spline.
I have a 94 T-case that I need to swap for a 95 or newer.

Sorry, I misread your post. You should have done more research before purchasing the trans.
