I have a couple simple questions that for some reason I cannot find the answer to when googling.
Looking at getting a 2019 GC Limited it shows this in the photo, so this is either Quad II or Select II?

And the big question is, lets say you are driving on the freeway in the summer, which wheels are getting the power, front or rear?

Thanks much!

ALL Grand Cherokees use a "Full-Time" electronic 4WD system. That means it switches automatically to 4WD when it detects wheel slippage, or if you turn the "Selec-Terrain" dial to ANYTHING other than Auto (Sand, Snow, Rock, OR Mud) OR put the 4WD system in "N" or "Neutral". The Grand Cherokee is RWD-Based, so the rear wheels would be getting the power in "2WD Mode". The Limited trim ALWAYS has the 4WD System with "Low-Range" (either Quadra-Trac II OR Quadra-Drive II), however, it will ONLY have Quadra-Drive II if you have the "Quadra-Lift" air suspension system (most Limiteds didn't, and my '14 Limited doesn't, it just has the Quadra-Trac II system). There will be a button with a picture of the Jeep with up and down arrows next to it if you have Quadra-Drive II, otherwise, the buttons that regularly control the "Quadra-Lift" system on the right-hand side of the "Selec-Terrain" dial will be blanked out on the Quadra-Trac II system.

The easiest way to tell which 4WD system the Jeep has is to pull up the original window sticker, which you can do HERE: https://www.chrysler.com/hostd/windo...kerPdf.do?vin=

OR you can ALSO pull up the build sheet, which shows which options the Jeep was originally equipped with, HERE: https://www.jeep.com/webselfservice/...etServlet?vin=

You'd input the full 17-digit VIN of the vehicle DIRECTLY after the = sign with NO spaces in between, and MUST be in ALL CAPS (it's case-sensitive). Hope this helps.

ok cool thanks, so if in auto mode, and on the freeway , it would be rear wheel drive biased?

Yes, it will be. If it has the Quadra Lift system as well, then it will automatically lower itself a few inches to put itself in "Aero" Mode for better fuel economy. In fact, turning the "Selec-Terrain" dial to ANY of the positions other than "Auto" will adjust the suspension accordingly (raising OR lowering the Jeep based on which terrain you select).

Ok interesting, oddly I had read the regular Cherokee was front wheel drive like on the freeway, so the GC is rear wheel. thanks, that's the info. I was looking for, thanks!

Yes, that's because the 2014-2023 Cherokees are FWD-Based on a car platform (so is the related Compass, as well as the Renegade). ALL other Jeeps are RWD-Based.

oh wow interesting thanks! I assumed they had the same PTU and setup, I bet that's why the GC hass less of those issues that the regular Cherokee has, thanks!

The main problem with the Cherokee KL is the 948TE transmission. It was always plagued with problems. The 845RE/850RE and ZF 8HP70/75/90 in the Grand Cherokee WK2 is known to be very reliable. In terms of the 4WD system, the Cherokee uses Freedom Drive and Freedom Drive II/Freedom Drive Low, and ONLY the latter have low range. The Pentastar V6 Grand Cherokees have the 845RE/850RE, which is built by Chrysler in Kokomo, Indiana, but is STILL based off of the ZF 8HP70/75/90 made in Germany. Those are ONLY used in the HEMI V8 Grand Cherokees (and I believe the EcoDiesel V6's as well).
