Bought 2014 Jeep Cherokee Latitude 4X4 Sport 2.l engine, 9-Spd 948TE FWD/AWD Auto Trans, new in 2014. From the beginning, I have always had intermittant problems with jerky shifting at low speeds and have read that has been a common problem with the 2.4l engines. Fast forward to 2026, the problem seems to be getting a little worse. I have searched for "recalls" on the Jeep site, but there are none for this issue. Question: Has anyone solved this problem independently? Thank you !

 

That 9-speed is known junk. No real fix without money, but try a transmission adaptive learn reset first. Disconnect battery for 30 minutes, then do a slow, smooth drive cycle. Some people have luck with a software update from a dealer or independent shop with a good scanner. Otherwise it’s a valve body or transmission replacement. Sorry man, Chrysler never truly fixed it.

 

#Jayson, Thanks for the info, I'll try your suggestion. There is a well respected transmission shop in my area. Do you think they might be able to do something further without replacing the whole thing? Or , like you say, it's junk ?
