2014 JGC check engine light question
Hello! Hoping someone can offer some insight and calm me down a bit. I have a brand new JGC altitude leased in May of 2014. Current mileage is about 8500. Driving to work today my check engine light came on. I was on a side road so I pulled over to try to assess the issue. I rifled thru my instrument panel and noticed my oil temp. gauge was maxed out and red. I got my first oil change about 2 months ago, albeit at a valvoline quick service which is now totally legal under Massachusetts law. No problems until today. I shut the car off and let it sit for a few. Turned it back on and instantly the oil temp was back to the normal range and drove for another 15 minutes until I got to work. Promptly checked the oil and there is plenty of oil in there. The oil temp was staying well below the halfway marker somewhere in the 176-188 temp range. I drove it hard to see if it would change anything and it still appears fine after I restarted the car. The light is still on and I have an appointment at the dealer Thursday. This should be covered correct? The car is 9 months old and has 8500 miles. Any insight would be appreciated and would help calm me down. I leased hoping to avoid any issues, now they are already popping up!!!

Leasing is not going to affect the vehicle as far as mechanical issues. It doesn't know or care.
I would remain calm if I were you. Let the dealer plug into the vehicle and get a readout on what code(s) were stored. Proceed from there.
They will determine what is covered under warranty.

Warranty for emissions is covered for a longer period of time and more miles that the regular factory warranty. If the check engine light is on it is because of emissions thresholds going beyond limits, or something than can cause more emissions.

I wasn't even aware it HAD an oil temp gauge. OH! You mean a check gauges light. It could be just a loose connection.
