So my dad has a 2005 WK Laredo with the REC navigation radio. We are having a few problems with it:
1.) Every now and again while driving the radio will reset itself. It will go blank, then go to the Jeep screen you first see when you first start up the Jeep, then it will return to the regular screen and ding three times. The audio keeps playing the whole time it is doing this, never goes out. We had the dash apart once to repair the HVAC system, but everything was secure when the dash was reassembled. Sometimes the radio will go a few days without doing this, then it will just start doing it again. What is wrong with the radio?
2.) The radio will occasionally ding three times and 'NAV Message' will appear at the bottom of the screen where the time and radio/CD info is displayed. When the NAV button is pressed, it says 'DVD-ROM Disc could not be read.' When I remove the 'NAVIGATION DISC' cover and press the 'Eject' button on the navigation disc drive, I hear a bunch of grinding and the disc will not eject. What is a good way to remove the disc without damaging the unit?
3.) The cheap and flimsy joystick broke. Went to my local Jeep dealer, they said I'd have to trade in the whole radio and get a new one for $700, which I prefer not to do. Where can I get a replacement joystick and joystick ****? How do I replace a broken joystick?
I'd like to get my dad's nav system back up and running. The radio and CD player work great, but the nav system and system settings don't work at all because you need the joystick to use them. It's especially annoying during Daylight Saving Time when the clock is an hour off, and I can't adjust it.
Any help would be appreciated! Thanks! (:

Check on ebay. You can probably find a nice used unit cheaper than you can get that one repaired.
Or check a pick-a-part near you. That would be even cheaper if it hasn't been taken already.
This info might be of some help. >http://www.wkjeeps.com/wk_nav.htm

after doing some reading it has been said that if you push and hold in the center button on the right side of the steering wheel (the button behind the steering wheel)and watch the radio a steering wheel icon will appear on the radio lower right corner you can now use the buttons on the back of the wheel to operate the nav system, hope this works, and helps upon further reading it looks like you have to hold both center buttons at the same time, read the thread listed below. on the last page there is a guy that has the joysticks available to purchase for 20 dollars inc shipping he has 2 left
