Related to the steel bumper concealed by the plastic cover.

Went under to check it out and it's almost gone .... rust ate it away.

The mounts are good, some surface rust so the serious damage was to the bumper itself.

Gor a JY replacement and it looks to be galvanized, but it has some corrosion spots.

I cleaned up the corrosion and shot a coating or two of primer to protect the bare metal.

I'd like to clean down the entire bumper, and reshoot it with some appropriate coating.

What would be best to use on this item to reduce the chance of recurrence.

I have added ' check rear bumper ' to my 'semi-annual maine schedule'.

POR-15 will keep it from rusting and the stuff is super tough, but it does not handle UV light for very long before it turns chalky. But being how it will covered by the plastic bumper cover, it will work perfect in this case. POR-15 will not stick to painted surfaces, only rusted metal and bare metal.
