2005 Hemi error code p0430

Model: Grand Cherokee
Engine: 5.7 hemi
2005 Hemi error code p0430
So 115 000 km down the line, the code for "catalytic converter below efficient range" (or something like that) keeps cropping up. Engine light stays on for 3 tanks then like magic disappears.
As the consumption and performance remains unaffected, I am led to believe that the honeycomb has disintegrated due to a combination of poor south African fuel and time itself. My question is: if the catalytic converter is removed completely, how do I get rid of the engine light which will almost certainly remained illuminated? BTW, the part alone costs R12 000 so I'd rather just be rid of the whole thing...
