Default 2002 Overland WJ front end noise

While making a 850 mile trip from tx to co my WJ started making a wanning noise in the front end like it has big mud terrains on it or driving on grated asphault. Noise started about 50 miles from end. Noise gets louder and faster in relation to tire rpm. No relation to engine rpm with vehicle in park. Any thoughts? Wheel bearing? Toasted diff? :-(. Front diff just was resealed and topped off with 75/140. Thnx.

Could be a wheel bearing. I have an 01 WJ and after driving from VA to TX i noticed a deep whurring sound that went away when turning. It was my right side wheel bearing that was going out.

When you hear the sound try turning or rocking the steering wheel to see if the sound comes and goes. This will at least point you toward the wheel bearings if it is them.

Thumbs up

Yeah I thought this maybe as well and have tried that. There is no change in pitch or tone that would indicate a wheel bearing. When turning left the load would be on the p/s making noise indicating it was bad and vise versa turning right. I popped the diff cover and ring and pinion look fine so im leaning toward axle bearing or pinion bearing. To me the noise when slowing down also sounds like when you push a 4wheeler around you can here the gears groaning. Gonna put new fluid and modifier in in the am and pray on a whim that fixes but doubt it will since the fluid was just changed with RP 75/140 when I resealed the front diff a month ago. Damn gremlins. If still making noise think im just headed to the stealership to pay the $120in to let them figure out what it is then ill conveniently elect to do the repair myself.
