First time on here. Just bough a 2001 GC Limited with the 4.7. From what I have read this is the overhead cam engine??

Anyway, getting a battle rattle / knock from the engine. It seems topend and varies with engine speed. Even does it at idle. Has 205,000 miles, but is a one owner and more service records than I have ever seen. Just started this a few days ago.

Any advice would be awesome!!

 

Have a 99 wj that just turned 216k with the 4.7.
Always had what sounded like a knock 2 me but had it checked out and said nothing was wrong by 2 dealerships and 2 private shops.
Also had a lifter tick develop within the last year...
Still chuggin right along and gettin 70-100 miles a day put on her with no issues. 8)

Removed the inspection cover and checked the bolts on the flex plate. No luck there. Still knocks terrible. Sounds like someone threw a bag of rocks in something.??

 

Dang, srry to hear that bro... Never heard a 4.7 sounds like that. 8(
