2000 4.0 whistle sound
Hi,, I have this whistle sound coming from the front of the engine when cold, after it warms up noise goes away, I disconnect the fan belt and i see the belt tensioner has play from side to side. Could this be the problem and how much play is normal ? Thany for any replies!

Zero, zip, nada! There shouldn't be any looseness side-to-side in the tensioner. With a serpentine belt, or any belt, it's important that the belt and all pulleys track straight.

Was just working on mine. Here're the tension specs if you want them:
New belt tension should be 800-900 N (180-200 lbs)
Used belt (>15 min of use) should be 623-712 N (140-160 lbs)
