Reason I say ground is that if you can push on the dash and get them to work that means something is loose. The grounds will be bolted or screwed to the steel structure under the dash...Probably in several locations ......Sorry I can't tell you exactly where to look. First I would get on my back in the floor and start looking,after that...........

I agree, most Jeeps have a ground wire from the dash to the body over on the drivers side near the kick panel. Also I've found lately that the plug in the back of the gauge cluster on ZJ's and XJ's has the ability to work it self loose. The only way to check it is to pull apart the main part of the dash... Hope this helps a bit...
