Default 2 problems 94 ZJ

My 95 Orvis was totalled in a rear end accident, forcing me out of work. Was forced to buy another ZJ due to lack of money since the insurance company screwed me over (pending work from Hupy and Abraham) ... (originally going to buy a newer GC). Well anyway.

Problem 1

Filled up all the way with gas last night. This is the first time I had ever done this with this jeep. Before that I only could afford around a half tank at a time. Well I filled it up, it clicked, and rounded it up about $1.50. Was around 1/4 before I filled it. Well I go and look and gas is just pouring out the bottom. Later inspection shown it was coming from on top and just sliding down to the bottom. It was full, after the incident it went to 3/4 according to meter. Had a tow truck come get me and tow 4 blocks for 60 bucks because I didnt want to drive it as it was leaking still. Tow truck takes me home, I park it, then go and check it around noon today, still leaking slightly. Sprayed it down with water to get the gas off so I felt comfortable driving it to my Moms house so the mechanic can take it Monday. Well it stopped leaking after that (let it dry a few hours). Its not leaking anymore as I can tell (I stuck cardboard under it so I can check before the mechanic takes it so I can see Monday if it leaked anymore). Well driving it to my moms it said full.

Any ideas as to why this happened? My idea was maybe the nozzle didnt click off in time and what I was doing was just adding excess fuel as I didnt see the fuel until I was done. Or maybe a hole at the top? Fuel pump has always worked great. Help appreciated

Problem #2

Bought the jeep with little steering fluid so added some. Go to find out when turning with the wheel cranked all the way either in forward or reverse it cuts and the tires you can here catching on the ground. Only happens when turning. I just put all brand new breaks on it (my mechanic did). Someone said the rods or something, someone else said the power steering pump. Any help appreciated.

Also how to fix squeaky rear breaks?

Cut the rockers out on it and got some 2x6 box tube, going to finish cutting out the rust and reinforcing then putting them on. Then once I finish the rest of the body rust work (minor), im going to go ahead and sand down the few MINOR rust spots like below the window and by the side mirrors and touch them up. Having a mint interior, it will be a "perfect" 1994 vehicle with 160,000 on it.

Oh and doing 12 inch glass packs on it once the gas issue is fixed (hopefully in the next few weeks)

Help appreciated thanks

The seal around the fuel pump is leaking. The rest of your questions make no sense to me.

is it a V8? if it is, more than likely the viscous coupler in the transfer case is bad. thats whats causing your tires to "catch" when you turn sharp.

Yes 318 5.2 I take it that it's not a $20 fix then right if it were to be the coupling in the transfer case.

unforunately no. the part costs around $350. and thats if you replace it yourself. i hate to imagine what a mechanic would charge to replace it.

you can test it by going in a parking lot or another open asphalt surface and do some tight figure 8 turns. if the front tires screech and bind, the viscous coupler is bad.

its not a very hard repair. supposedly it can be done with the transfer case still in the jeep, but i wouldnt try it.

Would it be possible to pull the coupler off a 95-96 ZJ that was scrapped?

Check your front axle u-joints. It may not be the VC.

I agree with Dave, his u-joint could be near failure - couldn't it? I had this noise before I replaced mine... I mean, that would be a fix, but not $600. $20-$40 u-joint plus 1.5hr labor (x2 if both bad)?

Thank you. I got a new job paying great, and once the bills are caught up all the money is getting poured into the Jeep (Just Empty Every Pocket). I will update after the mechanic gets his look tomorrow

my VC is bad in my 249 (have a 231 2wd option case that will be going in soon) mine only binds after i drive a little say about a half hour drive or so tight turning gets hard after that especially in the warmer summer weather so if you want to test to see if that's the problem, drive a little and try what was mentioned above..could be axle u-joints as mentioned above as well
