Hi everybody, I searched for a post I had read a while back regarding what blocks/engines would fit into different trucks, but can not seem to find it?? Anyway I am working on a 1998 g.c.with the 4.0 motor is pretty tired .. and head gasket/or head is shot.. I can pick up an older block complete from I believe a 1993 gc, I was wondering if I used the intake /exhaust from the 98 and any other sensors would it be a bolt in?? I usually work on the sport models and are much more familiar with them, I am pretty sure the tranny should bolt up but don`t know if the cranks are different and not sure if everything will line up.. The 93 gc engine has very low miles and runs great , the 98 body is in really good shape if it would work it would make a great truck.. Any advice/ thoughts expertise would be greatly appreciated.. Thanks in advance .. Bill

Okay, here you go. As far as I know, the basic 4.0 is the same up 'til 98. In 99 they changed the motor mount and oil filter locations so they won't work in older models. If you have the serpentine accessory drive belt, you're going to need a water pump because that one spins in the opposite direction then the 93. I recommend buying one with a metal impeller. Use all the external parts and electronics from your 98 and you should be golden.
You could, of course, use your old water pump, but now is a good time for a new one.
I'm sure if I made any mistakes, someone will chime in and correct me.

Thanks, I was thinking it should be the same but always like a second/third/opinion or expeirence. I figured all new hoses water pump/therm, valve cover gasket, plugs wires, cap, rotor, intake exhaust gasket, motor mounts any sensors (oil sender, temp sender etc) from the 98 onto the 93 long block and drop her in..

Strange but true I think they are much easier to change on the sport.. lol.. I just pulled the bad engine out of the gc and the trans bolts by the shifter are a pia!! but just unfamiliar I guess... cheers Bill

I have a 99 Jeep Cherokee Sport with the 4.0 engine, A/C etc etc and she has 145,000 on her. Runs like its 45K. The motor mounts need to be replaced and i was wondering if I should go with OEM as I never take her off road. Mainly to and from work with the A/C and stereo blasting for the 5 miles to my job. Any recommendations? Thanks in advance.

Go for it! Anchor mounts from rockauto.com. Their trans mount is Chinese. I bought an Anchor trans mount from partsgeek.com
