1997 zj lift/tire questions
First off I'm sure this is on the site somewhere but I want the answer to what I need help with not someone else. I'm getting a set of 31s for free, my zj is stock lift, what I wanna know is what size lift could I get for cheap "around 300" and wouldn't need major modification Aka torsion bars and major fender trimming. I've read that I could get a 2.25 and it could work but I've also seen that the tires will rub, but I've read that if I get a 3 I'll need torsion bars but idk if that's accurate. I've looked into the f<r swap and to me it seems complicated though I could be wrong, thanks for any comments

if you want to run 31" tires you can do it stock and trim the front bumper a bit, if you want to lift it and have the sway bar off for articulation then i recommend getting at least a 2" bb.
a BB (budget boost) is just pucks between the coils and body.
you can get a 2" budget boost for around 70$ and you wont need anything else except some shocks.
You can go up to 4" of lift with stock Control arms, but you will need new shocks and some new trackbars
OR you could just put some 3" coils on with new shocks and you will hardly notice the trac bars- so you can lift it 3" with new coils and shocks, just depends on what route you wanna go

Thank you that was very helpful. Im thinking about going with the 3 from what you said. Depending on my tax returns, if i went with a 3 what kit would you recommend

it depends on your driving and how big of lift you have...
with 3.5" of lift and lower i never noticed it to bad,
my first 93 zj i had a 3.5" rough country lift and no sway bars front or rear, it drove fine on the high way and great in town- just dont drive dumb and take corners at a 100mph and it will be fine

I love my 2" BB and 31s it was great before I trimmed the fenders and its much better with trimmed fenders as I beat the **** out of mine off road.
Trimmed on 2" BB with 31s
