1995 G. Cherokee will not restart after turning off
Hello Forum,
I'm a newbie here and looking for advise. I have a 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4.0 . Originally I would drive it for 30 minutes or so and it would start to loose power and eventually stall( slowly over 10-15 minutes). I had a jeep guy tell me to put a gauge on the fuel rail and see if it looses power when that happens, I did( Pressure went up and down and was only like 20 psi instead of 45) and it did. He said that would indicate the Fuel pump so I drop the tank and replaced. Now, I drive it for 30 minutes and turn it off and it will not restart for 30 minutes or so.. Any ideas on where to start with this. Its our only car and I need to get it going solid for the wife. I ride metrorail to work but she will have to take our son to school in another month so got to get it fixed.
Thanks for any ideas.

Old fart with a wrench
Did you install a new fuel filter when you changed the pump? I believe it's external on yours, yes? Even if you did, you may have stirred up sediment in the tank and plugged a new one. That may have been your original problem. Depending on the amount of trash in the tank, it may be plugging the pump's intake screen.

Good point! I'm more inclined to think it's the pump intake screen. After it sits a while the stuff will settle out and allow a restart.
