1994 Grand Cherokee Laredo Wiring problems, need help
I'm having problems with the wiring. To start, the previous owner installed an old tape player/stereo with an attached cd changer(under psgr seat). I've since disconnected the cd player. So, the problems I am having are, the Stereo/radio works sometimes. It works on startup, then shuts off at random times. Other times, I will be driving and it will be on, but the sound itself won't turn on until later on abruptly. I also had to disconnect the Jeeps alarm system by grounding the wire in the drivers side door because it would go off on its own while driving/random times. The rear left window will only work sometimes and it seems to be in sync with the radio issue. Where can I check troubleshooting these problems and which wires should I look into to see if there are any shorts, fuse problems, broken wires, etc.? I am familiar with electronics and wiring but not with auto wiring, especially without a schematic for everything. Please help, thank you.

I'll check all of them out tomorrow, thank you. And yeah, radio is definitely junk so once I put the new one in, I'll re-check and post again if I'm still having problems.

Be prepared to spend a lot of time with that radio. A lot of people cut and splice the wiring harness instead of buying an adapter. Loose connections may be the whole problem with it.
My Chevy truck had a radio problem quit similar to yours and when I pulled it out to repair it, the wiring was pigtail twisted and taped with clear Scotch tape!! The PO was an idiot! I should have known because the trailer connector was wire nutted with no tape.

Since installing this new receiver, there is still no sound and everything is connected except for this stray orange wire that reads "dimmer" on it. I cannot figure out where it is supposed to be connected to. Also, when radio is on and then I open drivers door, it loses power and the overhead lights also shut off. But turns back on again when the door is closed. Any thoughts on where specifically to check, what wires, and where that stray orange is supposed to be? Thanks
