Default 02 Overland vs 04 Overland

Hello all,

First off, first time poster, long time lurker. I drive an XJ as my daily and am looking into a WJ Overland for the wife's next vehicle. I've narrowed it down to two and they are comparable in price (only $650 different.)

An 04 Overland edition in Black and only 101k miles. Pulled up the CarFax on it and found its had 4 owners the 9 years its been around. Also noticed it has been in two minor accidents, one in the front, one in the back. I know WJs have issues, are 04s less prone to them? Haggled him down to $8500

Second is an 02 Overland in Grey. Only 111k miles. CarFax shows 1 owner. 1 owner. I know that's a plus and I guess the only thing holding me back is the issues the 02-03s had (brakes, heated seats, transmissions.) Talked him down to $7850 on this one.

Im looking for expertise since I'm new to WJ Jeeps. Is the 04 worth it because its younger and has less miles, but has had 4 owners and been in 2 crashes? Or is the 02 a better deal since its a 1 owner and ill just keep my fingers crossed on reliability?

Thanks!

I would keep looking private party would be cheaper then a car lot is.And not saying all car lots are dirty but most will try to hide things wrong.Out of the two i would take the 02 problems can always be fixed if they pop up.

Default Beware the 04

I had an 04 Overland. Great Jeep but the engine started dropping rocker arms (valve retainers). Only fix was to replace the head(s). Very expensive.

How many miles did you have on it when it had to replace the heads?
