Default 02 Grand Cherokee 2wd to 4wd conversion?

I recently bought a 2002 Grand Cherokee 4.7 V8, unfortunatly it is 2wd,the only reason i got the 2wd version was because i found it for $4900, now i really want to convert it to 4wd, any help on information or if you have suggestions, i would greatly appreciate it, thanks!

it can be done but you will need ALOT of time, money and experience, pretty much a donar 4wd cause you will need a t-case,tranny, axle, driveshafts, wireing, linkages just to name a few...by the time your done you could have just bought a 4wd...but thats just my opinion

not all true. you would need both driveshafts, the TC and just the tranny overdrive unit and the front axle it self. All the linkages and even the hubs will swap over. You would also need the shifter and linkage from the TC you are putting in. No wiring to worry about either. Steering is all the same as well. Not a hard swap at all since the GC had a solid front end whether it was 2wd or 4wd.

The hardest part would be putting the TC shifter in as you would have to make the hole in the transmission tunnel and run the shifter.

Would not even have to pull the tranny as the tailshaft can be pulled with the tranny installed.

well i'm not speaking from first hand experience so if you are then you know more than me,but i was just going by what i've read/heard people who did it say however saying "not a hard swap at all" really depends on his level of experience/knowledge of working on vehicles

not a hard swap, if you can do a lift install you can swap the front axle, the tailshaft and tc are just a few bolts, hard on the ground but not impossible.

Default 2WD or AWD

Hello-

I am thinking of getting a 2002 Limited JGC. I live in in Illinois so I have to deal with snow. I have always liked the smart track systems because I never knew if the AWD was on or not. Anyone have anything to say about performance differences between 2WD and AWD? Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks-
Stephen
