Default xj mud racer

My wife has been mud racing the xj for two years now and has won a few and placed in the money alot. Most events has adopted the 4-6cyl class so it's time to get serious and build a xj for racing only. It's tough to race, trail ride and DD the same xj, it's just getting too heavy.

Here's a pic of her and her arch enemy Morris in a vortec straight axle (D30) blazer that alway's seems to beat her by a few tenths. He placed 1st and her second in the street stock class at this event.

Now here's the new project, It's a 90 xj that I'm swapping over to OBD2 and HO. It's gonna be stripped of every ounce I can shave off it, and still remain stock. I'm gonna lift the rear 3in and deseam the quarters that's why I went 2dr. The front will be 5in and cut to top of the fenders to fit 35/10.50 boggers and have 2in of rake for weight transfer. I have a D44 from a xj for the rear welded with 410's and a HP D30 open for the front. Any help on this project would be appreciated, I've never built a mud racer before but I'm thinking it's gonna be fun.

I'm gonna run the AW4, If the TPS reads WOT it shifts on the limiter. No way she can do any better manually shifting, plus it takes the human/wife error out of it..

yea i agree running the aw4 versus the ax15 is a better choice when running the bogs the manual shift just lets to mu torque drop and then you end up stuck with no forward momentum

the only thing that might hinder you will be the 4:10's with 35's its said that for 35's you wanna run 4:56 or 4:88 i know im running 33's with stock 3:55 gears and mine is sluggish off the line just food for thought

Sounds like a fun project! Perhaps consider another form of a Locke for the rear for strength purposes. Maybe even a spool. With the boggers, and gettin on it as hard as your wife will be soon, Im not sure wether the welded diff could handle it..
I'll be watching this one!

We run 410's and low range in the pits, works good with my 33 boggers and 34 TSL's she ran the last two years. If I need more gear I'll change to 456's in the rear only and that will let the front wheels pull you in a straight line. The good thing about mud racing is the launch area is alway's mud covered and getting enough bite is alway's a problem, that's why welding a good rear like a 44 usually is enough. I want to spend all my money in the motor and use all used parts on the rest of it.

Here's a link to one of her runs. 150ft in 5.3 seconds, alot of fun. We call it a speed pit, 10-15 in of mud

This is a deep pit. 150 ft in 14 seconds in 20-36in of mud, it was raining all day and deep.

that second vid looks kinda like the place i wheel here local except add trees on both sides of the lane and make it 1/3 of a mile then have it open into a big pool of mud water about 24" deep in the shallow and around 36" or so in the deep
