other than that it seems like I'd need a front axle/2 new driveshafts and the associated shift linkages, as well as the interior bezel and handle... possibly a crossmember?

It really doesn't seem that bad. I'm guessing I'd have to finally buy a torque wrench. lol.

I'm going to look into this a bit more...

lol I think so too. Plus, I know it's a solid vehicle mechanically... If I could save myself the trouble of taking a chance on a new vehicle it would be cool. If I could fix the little things I don't like I think I'd be a lot happier with this Jeep. I fixed one of the big things today (shifting) so maybe it's time to crack down.

I need to find a shop to fix this:

A working hatch would be awesome. Other than that... Maybe do a front clip swap. As well as newer mirrors or (even better) newer doors.. Then the whole lift/big tars thing.

i love the newer style mirror. so much bigger and foldable. i just need to get rid of the 2 peice window. i hate that usslees triangle that just blocks my view.

as for the front clip swap..id do it if i were in a wreck and needed to replace it but otherwise, id leave it alone

to each his own tho. just my .02$

I'm considering it. If I do it I'll probably do it one piece at a time... IE, get a d30 under there, then drive it until I find an aw4 and 231... not really too crazy about a 242 because I don't feel like eventually doing a hack'n'tap... and there's never any snow around here, so no need for ft 4wd.

I'm thinking about this, for real, if you couldn't tell... lol

yup 231's got a lot more aftermarket support and if you blow it up theres a junked xj somewhere with one that you can swap in.

lol, yes. the 242 was my original choice of t-case, but after a bit more... learning... I realize that a 231 would be a lot more convenient. I might get down to pull a part this (next?) weekend and see what I can see...

look for a wrecked xj first. its more likely that the xj was in a running condition when it was put there. but even if not the trans and cases are pretty good regaurdless of the miles.

my aw4 and 231 both have 226k on them and dont skip a beat

Yep. Gonna look for stuff with minor fender benders/rear collisions. It's quickly becoming apparent that the most expensive piece is the front axle... Everything I see is around 200 for a hp d30. Pfft. I'll find a deal I'm sure.

i pulled a d30 from picknpull once for 250$ a little pricy if you ask me. look for part outs on CL. or a rolled parts xj of a simalr year.

i picked up a pretty rough(but well built) 00 xj and am in the prosess of off swapping the axles. if your patient you can find some good deals

I'll wait my whole life if I have to, but I'll tell you what... I'm not paying $250 for a d30!

Kidding, but I really am gonna bide my time until I find a good one.
