Started to take apart the old jeep, front bumper off, most of the bracing remove, flares removed, interior has been gutted and the disconnects are off. Now I have to remove the back bumper and start taking the lift out.
What didnt you like about the old one, that made you pull it all apart?
The gearing is too deep for a 5 speed, the tires are too big and I was finding I was replacing too many parts over and over again for only going out 3 times a year. The body is dented every where and looks like crap.
I'm looking for more of a daily driver with a nicer ride that I can take out once and a while and do some exploring.
Need to remove the doors, axles, suspension and trans as well as the exhaust, brake booster and master cylinder, clutch master and slave cylinder ( all brand new ) and maybe the engine.
Hope to get it completely stripped this weekend and have the body removed and off to scrap.
The engine and clutch master / slave cylinder are going into my wifes TJ, the rest is going in the the new xj.
Hope to get to the build of my new jeep in a couple weeks.
Well spent all weekend cleaning parts. Found that the bushings in my leaf springs are toast. Sent an email to rubicon express to see if they will warranty. heres some pics.
They are 2 years old and I don't use the jeep to often. We will see what they do, I sent the email last week but haven't heard anything.
I was planing on putting the lift in this weekend we will see now.
I also order a bunch of parts for the jeep so I will start to build this thing now.
Here is a list of what needed to get done.
Install:
Lift Kit
Overhead Console
Cruise Control
Amp and Sub box
Track Bar and Bracket
Front bumper
Back Bumper
Skid plates
Stearing box Brace
Track Bar Brace
GC stearing upgrade
Header back exhaust
231 with SYE
Trans cooler
Things to fix:
Oil filter adapter oil rings
Rear main seal and pan gasket
Valve Cover Gasket
Ball joints
Hubs
Axle Seals and bearings
Axle Ujoints
Drivers side door pins
Maybe brakes ( still need to inspect )
Things left to clean and paint:
Front and rear Axles.
I have all of next week off so I should be able to get a big chuck of the list done.
It has been a fun couple of weeks , Started to take apart the new jeep and found out the rear quarters where rusted out. I would have just done a cut and fold but the XRC bumper I have matchs the contours of the body line. So I had to hand build new quarters and while I was at it I also cut and replaced any other rust stops I found.
Before
After
And a little fix on the front fender
I didn't spend much time cleaning some of the welds because it is all getting bed lined anyway.
Also replaced the bottom and inside of the drivers door but didn't take pictures.
I'm hoping to get finished with the body work this weekend and finally get to putting the lift in and painting the axles up.
Oh and I'm still waiting for the new bushing from Rubicon express.
Well it's been awhile since I updated, I'm moving to a new house in a week and had a month to get the jeep up and running. I didn't take any pictures of the journey to this point but here are some of the jeep how it currently sits.
So, to summarize what I did.
Installed:
XRC front bumper
XRC back bumper
Rubicon express 3.5 superflex kit with .75" spacers up front
Rubicon express track bar, bracket and brace
steering box brace
upgraded steering
new timket hubs
new ujoints and axle seals in the 30
Rubicon express quick disconnects
rear main seal and pan gasket
tranny pan gasket and filter
tranny cooler
new exhaust manifold
new exhaust, manifold back
Gas tank skid
and a few things I may have missed
Also:
fixed all the rusted body panels ( there was a lot )
bed lined the lower bodyline and fender flares
clean and painted both axles and diff covers
Changed all the fluids
Things I will still have to do after I move:
Carry bed liner into the interior
install over head console
install sub and better speakers all around
change mounts for back seat to fit a 31
heater core replacement
install the led lights
install sye 231 and new drive shafts
correct pinion angle front and rear
maybe an alignment
clean interior and do some wiring of things
and other stuff will most likely come up.
I will try and take some pics of the work this time and post the progress.
