Default Somewhat-budget Cherokee build

Hello everybody! After lurking around for a bit I’ve decided to make my first post. I finally think I have some things in place that are set in stone. I have a 2001 Jeep Cherokee sport that I’m lifting and Raptor lining metallic blue because the solar yellow is cracking/chipping on the roof and hood. It had also been in an accident before I got it so I replaced the rear hatch as well. I figure since I have to take those three items to bare metal I might as well paint the whole thing my favorite color. Hopefully soon, the plan is to paint the bare metal areas with Raptor liner primer and then with the liner itself. The color I chose is blue metallic which is a very beautiful color. I bought 10 liters so I’d have some to do the jambs and everything. My plan is to spray the liner with a harbor freight hvlp gun with a drilled out tip.
To lift it, I bought 5 inch lift springs, lifted leafs and skyjacker shocks for 20$. I figure the shocks will last long enough to get something better and for 20$ I can’t complain. I then bought an adjustable rough country track bar for 50$ and a new rough country long arm kit for 670$. While I was at it I bought a new sye and transfer case chain. The dude I bought it from also gave me a ZJ (I think) double cardan driveshaft with it all for 180$. Future plans for it are to get rock sliders, a new rear bumper because the old one got eaten by rust and a new front bar too. I also want to go to a junk yard to get zj seats and look for a pair of 4.10 axles because gears are expensive. Happy Jeeping.

Thats a nice start to get ya rolling. Are you going for a set of 4.10 axles to bolt in and run or a set to just pull the gears out of and re-setup yourself?

Thank you I appreciate that! I’m planning on just bolting them in because I found out I have a Dana LP30. I want to go for 35s but I’m still on the fence about how much it costs to regear and I don’t think I have the finesse to do it myself. Maybe I can find someone local who can do it for me.

Gears can be about $150 a set, then figure another $100 per axle for install kits, so doing it yourself could be as little as $500 - just rough variables but proper tools that makes that process easier add up quickly as well. Having a shop do it-you could be paying as much as $800-$1,000 all said and done (thats also dependant on if they want the axles out of your vehicle or axles stay in and its a drop off and pickup completed deal). Junkyard wise you'd be looking for a 4-cyl manual jeep xj. Not very common but also not un-heard of BUT you could prolly get out of a you-wrench yard with those axles for less than that cost of re-gearing yourself for sure. Around Michigan its not uncommon to see those axles (D30hp - C8.25) as pull-out pairs for $300-$350.
