I took the XJ for Mass state inspection yesterday (passed with no issues).
This is the first time I've driven the Jeep in almost 3 weeks since my daughter got her license.
I really miss driving it....

So yesterday my cell phone rings while I'm at work....
Dad, the Jeep is making a weird noise. Me - is it normal temp, oil pressure OK, any smoke?
Daughter - no everything is OK, but it sounds weird.....
So we get it home and investigate. The weird sound is coming from the front of the engine, sounds like a bad bearing. Remove the belt and sure enough, the PS pump is "funky", not smooth at all.
Out with the old:
Tried to use my pulley puller but nope, now I know why Napa lists both the pump AND the pulley (separately)
New one installed....
Flushed out all the old fluid and it's good as new.

So I have been battling a clunk in the rear end suspension of the 99XJ. I've pulled just about everything apart searching for the source.
Today I replaced the rear shackles and the clunk continues.
I'm thinking that of the leaf spring mounts (front end) may be the culprit.
I seem to remember that the when I replaced the leaf springs the inner bushing pulled through. I'm thinking that the bolt hold may be elongated.....
Open to suggestions.

Have you already dropped the fuel tank? Possible debris sitting around the tank.
Also, what shackles did you use? I'm looking to purchase some this week.

I purchased / used the OMIX-ADA 18280.19 Rear Shackle for 84-01 Jeep Cherokee XJ
These are definitely not as thick as the stock ones...

If you're leary about installing those shackles I was finally able to find these. I've heard too many people complain about those crown and omix-ada shackles.

That's a great looking Jeep! Exactly how I'd like mine to be one day. Everything working but some good upgrades. Good job

So the 99XJ has had a water leak for a while now, the drivers side carpet is always wet. So this past weekend I finally pulled the interior and did a rain test with a hose. I needed to see if the windshield, cowl, or something else was leaking:
Found that one of my previous repairs to the floor board had more issues:
This area is where the floor meets the cowl in the driver side foot well. I had previously patched this area, but evidentially the repair didn't totally seal up. Basically when I had rain water coming out of the cowl, it was running down the side of the Jeep (behind the fender) and would find its way inside the vehicle.
So after cleaning up the area again, adding another patch panel, POR 15 and some tar based sealant, I ended up with this:
Oh, and the carpet has been down in the basement with the dehumidifier pulling out all of the moisture:
I should have everything back together tonight.

I bought a headlight harness / relay kit from eBay. Got that installed:
Finally got all the small projects finished up tonight, even did a quick clean-up on the paint:
Tomorrow my daughter drives it to school, first time in about a week and a half. Plus I get my 2001 back and get to start driving it to work again.
Oh, and this showed up yesterday (is it May or March, so confused):

Ok, so my daughter's 99 XJ has had an intermittent air bag light. Every so often, the air bag will light will come on and the rest of the cluster goes dead (gas gauge, tack, speedo, etc.). Then after a bit, the light will go out and everything else works normal.
So tonight I took the air bag clock spring out to clean / inspect:
It was pretty nasty. Took the unit apart and cleaned all the gunked up paste / dirt / dust inside the assembly and then re-installed it back in the Jeep.
Took it for a quick spin, no light on so far. I'll have my daughter report back over the next few days. If the cleaning didn't fix the issue, I'll order a replacement and install.
