hey Irish, yep you have to remove the factory shift lever. First remove the center console. It’s a few screws in the CD storage, one under the transmission shifter and one under the 4 wheel drive shifter. Then there are about 5 screws holding the shifter to the body of the vehicle. Once those are out, you can pull the whole thing right out. You may have to cut your carpet a bit because the carpet lays over some of the screws. Any cutting to the carpet will be hidden by the center console once reinstalled. You have to drill a hole in the shifter lever once it’s out. At least that’s how it was for my kit.
esit: I reread your post. I see you are talking about the TC lever. Yea I had to change my stock lever to the boostwerks lever. It’s one 9/16th nut that holds the lever on.
Yea the TC lever I for the life of me can't get mine to come off I should have taken damn thing off when I had TC out.
Is it a nut holding it on or is the nut and lever all one piece? Mine acts and seems like its all one hope someone didn't spot weld it on I'll look again.

I drew this picture maybe it will help better explain. The TC lever fits on the gear selector of the TC. The lever has a square hole which slides on a square peg. This is so the lever can only be oriented straight up. The lever can sort of get stuck on the square peg. You may need to pry it off. This is after you have loosened and removed the 9/16th nut.

Nice photo! I'll check mine like I said I was having problems getting that 9/16 nut off. Makes it easier if TC was out but I know I'll get it as long as mine breaks loose.

Got a chance to log some Jeep time. Wife went over to her friends house to watch TV and junior is counting sheep.
I finished up my shift linkage install. I went with the recommend TC drop spacing that boostwerks had in the installation guide. Worked out great at that adjustment. They don't lie, it really is incredible how night and day different the shifting is now. Crisp and clean.
Also, greased all zerks on the front end, including the JKS quick discos.

no, the way the linkage is engineered from the factory it is prone to having issues shifting gears even at stock height. The problem becomes inflamed by lift and a TC drop. This kit changes the way the linkage shifts the t-case into gear, thereby eliminating the problem.

Once things settle back down I hopefully will have more time. Or maybe....I have been abducted by aliens and my placeholder is typing this statement.
Thanks man, like I said above, it’s just in dormancy. I’m never leaving. Haha!

lol, yea they did hire a new guy, two to be exact. One apprentice for me and one for my manager. It will probably be awhile until they are up to speed. It will be about 2 years before they are full fledge techs. But things should begin slowing down here in the next 3-6 months. Cheers dude.

Hello Guys,
It’s been awhile since I’ve been active on here. It is incredible how times flies. Can a man hit the pause button for for once? Life says no, we must trudge forward, like it or not.
Since I’ve last been active, I am now the father of two beautiful children (I always was a father of 1 since i signed up for CherokeeForum). My daughter was born on June 16th 2019. I am also a master instrument and control technician at my company. So a lot of work and projects get funneled to me. Needless to say, I’ve been busy with work and being a father
My Jeep still sits waiting for me to start upgrading it again. Over the fall I had it parked outside and for whatever reason both the front and passenger windows have fallen down about an 1”. Go figure. I still have parts sitting on shelf to install (looking at you Neal). I also have a giant rust hole in the passenger rear quarter panel at the bottom where the bumper is. I have no clue how to fix that, I have no welding or body experience. I hope maybe I can have someone help me take care of that in the spring, if it’s even salvageable.
i hope everyone has been well.

Kinda wild! I've taken a hiatus from my XJ for the last couple years (Life and other projects in the way), but I've been getting a serious itch to work on it again lately. Started flipping through CF again, and looks like a few of you guys were in the same boat. Lets all start working on our XJ's together friends! Hahaha!
