Hello everyone, well it's time those damn 4 hole injectors from jhc7399 stop sitting on my shelf wrapped up in paper towel like some kind of murder victim.
I also have to install a "heat soak" prevention kit from DEI. This kit includes a new manifold heat shield, fuel rail wrap, and injector wraps. I planned on doing this job in one day, but a bunch of my buddies wanted me to get on Gears of War 4 last night. The match making system is now in a new season and we have to earn our ranks back. So I broke the project into to two days.
Before I ripped everything to hell
Labeled the wire with my Brady BMP label maker
All the parts of my DEI heat soak kit laid out and ready
Fuel Rail Out
Yea, I don't think that old heat shield was doing jack sh*t
New shield in place
Kind of a weird fitment issue, didn't have a cut out in the wrap to go around this capped off injector port. Still the wrap fit pretty well
Everything back together, fuel rail wrapped, all injectors wrapped
Fire extinguisher at the ready. Safety first!
So I landed the battery cables back on the battery. Primed the pump and could listen for its pitch to hear when it fully pressurized the line. Used a flash light to check for leaks. None found.
Cranked it up. Started right up, no hesitation. Shut the XJ down and went through the process of resetting the ECM. Fired XJ back up and took it for a spin to Home Depot. There is quite a difference, the overall throttle feel and idle feel are a lot smoother than stock. Acceleration feels more deliberate and quick. I still need to try this thing on a highway ramp. Great upgrade!
Also, on the trip to Home Depot, I was inside for maybe 10 minutes. Which is a text book heat soak condition. XJ started right up, no misfiring. I will still consider that the jury is out on this one, until I have more evidence that the kit is working. Summer is coming and the kit will get a work out, I'm sure.
Wife brought me a snack from Texas Roadhouse, yum.
If your interested in 4-hole injectors please see forum user jhc7399 on his "for sale" page here:
I honestly think I need to do the same thing. All this talk from people about heat soak issues has got me wondering. Like you said, summer is coming and its going to be a hot one this year! Would rather be safe then sorry.

Yes, I also recommend upgrading the injectors whole your in there. It's be under 150 bucks for the injectors and heat soak kit and few hours of your time. The 4 hole injectors are awesome. Worth every penny.

Havent actually driven mine with the 4-hole injectors, but the install was easy and it definitely idles smoother now.

Thats not bad at all. Mine does not idle perfectly smooth so it would be nice if the 4 hole swap helps out. I might even be able to find some laying around the shop and throw them in the injector cleaner/flow bench at work to verify they are good! It might just be a dirty IAC too. Who knows.
Yeah, same here. Only things lefts for me are oil pan and rear main. If I'm dropping the pan, I'm doing the rear main.
The valve cover was my first seal replacement on the XJ. It leaks a dime to quarter size drop after I park it in my garage. In other words, it's low on my priority list.

Guys, quit being lazy and just fix it. If its leaking, you got a problem. Trust me, the job to fix it is not that bad and well worth it. Imagine no more oil leaks! Its like a dream come true.

If I would've known my long arms would've taken this long I would've gotten the seals and just done it for the heck of it. I've seen a couple videos doesn't look too awful.

Don't tell me how to live my life! Hahaha! If it was bad, I'd be on top of it, but mine never drips on the ground anymore. Just see little bits on the pan, and by the drain plug.
