Hey just to answer your question, now that I have driven it around the block and what not, they do not rub at all. The new rims gave me an extra 1.25" or so, and that's about the space left between the tire and control arm at full lock.

Got the rest of the rust patched up last night. Now just need to finish grinding it down, and Bondoing up some other areas, and I'm still on track for MONSTALINER this weekend!

It'll be nicer when I grind off those ugly welds tonight! So far, i'm still on track to start Monstaliner tomorrow. The moment I start rolling it on will be a glorious one. It's been a long road getting there!

I did a LOT of research before deciding on Monsta. For one, they are an active vendor over on JeepForum and there is tons of documentation over there on Jeeps with Monstaliner, and it simply looks like the best choice for our application. It's not too thick and hard to clean like Herculiner, it doesn't have chunks of rubber and has a smoother feel, but is still as solid as a roll-on liner can be. Check em out!


So I got her out of the garage to stretch her legs a little. I definitely need to bumpstop!

I'll be working on this thing tonight--but it'll be way too cold for Monstaliner unfortunately, but I still have a ton of prep to do anyways. I'm going to be finishing up touch-ups with Bondo to the repaired areas and also the 4 bolts on the driver's side tranny hump for the T-case shifter. (I removed them in favor of a custom linkage, so I'm patching the holes)

I do have fresh imagery of the rocker/door jamb area since grinding the welds down but won't have a chance to put them up until a little later. I don't really have any pics of my linkage right now because it's all disconnected. I actually still have to drill out bolts from the shift assembly, all but one of them broke when removing it. I'll be glad when Monstaliner is done then I can start putting things back together.

Make sure to have a good pry bar handy when disconnecting the stock linkage, lol. And if you're sticking with the factory setup, it's not a bad idea to get the bushing kit. I think it's on Quadratec for like 12 bucks or something.

Updates!

So it's snowing here in Central PA...first storm that I could get the jeep out in, but unfortunately...I must fix all this nonsense. The light is at the end of the tunnel.

Here's some shots of the finished repair.





I'm very happy with the turnout. The rusty areas shown yet (bottom of doors, door hinge) have been taken care of with a wire wheel and Chassis Saver.



Here's some Bondo on that nasty rocker corner, waiting to be sanded. I should've cut it out and did a patch there too, but I was just out of patience...lol. I'm hoping it will hold up for a while until I'm ready for 2x6. I want to have some fun with this XJ before doing that.



Here you can see where I bondo'ed the 4 holes on the tranny hump for the shift linkage. Good riddance.


I also bondo'ed the door sill screw holes. Good riddance to those things, also. And word to the wise--don't buy Diamond Plate Door Sill plates from Rusty's. They just don't fit, the screws that came with them don't work, and you'll have a bad time trying to get them to work.
